MINTO 2010

MINTO 2010  (UNOFFICIAL - copy of 2009 - Use as reference)

Minto is an event that has been held for many years that has the ability to test the skills of a Sea Scout ship both as a unit and as an individual.  Throughout the event you will be responsible to work as a team and to lead or be led.

The event will be held at LOST PINES SCOUT RESERVATION. If you Google < 3100 FM 1441, Bastop, TX, 78602 >  you can map yourself there in no time. The event has a Boarding Manual that defines the rules for the event and then also the rules for each individual event. Some of the events will test your individual skill set but will be scored as part of the team. The events at Minto will be:

  1. Uniform Inspection
  2. Conduct
  3. Ring-buoy Toss
  4. Heaving Line
  5. Knot Tying
  6. Compass and Relative Bearings
  7. Mariner's Quiz
  8. First Aid Quiz
  9. Radio Communications
  10. Piloting
  11. Bos'n Chair
  12. Swimming
  13. Sailing
  14. Ground Tackle and Motor Boating
  15. Nomenclature
  16. Rules of the Road and Aids to Navigation
  17. Marlinespike
  18. International Code Flags
  19. Barrel Fill
  20. No-paddle Canoe Race
  21. Blind Man Canoe Competition
  22. Canoe Tug-O-War
  23. Breeches Buoy
  24. Scuttlebutt

But I dont feel comfortable in knot tying, compass, relative bearings, radio communication, piloting or any of it.  Then read the boarding manual it has the pages from the Sea Scout Manual that can give you the basics of what you need to know. Then you come out - have a good time and learn some more.

But if you want some additional information then:

AVAST! What in the name of Neptune is a GROMMET?
