Happy to see you are looking a little 'deeper' into Sea Scouting.
We are a Standard Sea Scout Ship of more than 20 years. We may not the oldest but one of the most experienced ships in the fleet. We are chartered to the Friends of Whitney Lodge in Spring, TX where we land ship in a retired fire house and our flotilla is in South Shore Harbor in Kemah, TX. The BEST harbor in the Texas Gulf Coast!!!
What is Sea Scouts?
Sea Scouts is a part of the Boy Scouts of America and is comprised of young men and young women that are 14 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday.
Young-adults join Sea Scout ships to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer leadership, fitness, outdoor, service, social, and career hands-on activities.
Basically - Sea Scouts is learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities. Or as BP put it "Fun with a purpose."
Young people need experiences that allow them to: Interact with peers and acquire a sense of belonging. Gain experiences in decision making. Discuss conflict in values and foster their own value systems. Reflect on self in relation to others and discover more about themselves by interaction. Participate as a responsible member of a group. Cultivate a capacity to enjoy life. Sea Scouts can provide these experiences in wholesome, well-planned programs run by youth members.
We have many active youth and just as many active and trained adults. Take a look around. There is a lot of information on the ship here and our sister units of Scouting 1659. We hope that you will find the site to be informative, user friendly, and promote you to join a ship in your area so that you too can have all the fun that we do on a regualr basis.
Stick around for a while and see what other information you can find here. If you are interested we will definitly help you conect with us or a ship closer to you. Drop me a line at: skipper1659 [at] scouting1659.org
I look forward to chatting with you.
